What games will run on this at high settings?

Hey all,

Well seeing as my X800XT is about to say good bye to this world, I am about to pick up another GFX card for the end of the month for my system. Was wanting to know, with my system, what good games could I play at full settings and 1280 x 1024 res..?

System is:

AMD A64 2.4Ghz 3400+
X1950pro 256mb
2Gb DDR 400
300Gb HDD space.

Would, S.T.A.L.K.E.R run on that full at that res?

Runs at about 10 to 20fps on my Athlon X2 4200 2.4ghz, 2gb DDR 400, 256mb 7900GT, 1280X1024 on full settings, but only if you tweak some settings in the game files, I get 1 to 2fps with dynamic lighting enabled if I don't! :(
 
Stalker 25+ with full settings except grass which is best to put on 50%. Least thats what i get with specs similar to yours.
 
Okay won't be getting that game just yet then..lol

And other games?

my X800XT runs Doom3, HL 2 and Farcry at max settings.
 
i get about 50 FPS with my setup playing STALKER. so i guess you would need to be playing something else.

I would suggest Dawn of war and perhaps HL2 - Doom3 is a very good option and PREY or FEAR.

That with dynamic lighting on? My setup HATES having it turned on unless I play about with the files.
PS, running under Vista Business too, probably doesn't help! :p

It's slowly dieing I think. Sometimes I get random artifects on screen, then when I restart or highlight the screen they go away for two weeks or more and games still run 100%....presume its on it way out.

I already have Doom 3 and Half Life 2, both run at full pelt on my X800XT

Yes with dynamic lighting on. And since stalker i belive has a 30fps limit as in you cant force more i think 25+ is good.

Static lighting takes away realistic dynamic shadows, removes a huge amount of pixel shading and bump mapping, removes HDR (High Dynamic Range) lighting, etc. In other words it makes the game look really craptacular and completely lifeless (imho of course).

As for the game itself, it's one of my favourite singleplayer games of all time. You could call it a FPS/RPG hybrid, e.g. what you would get if you mixed HL2 with Oblivion and added Rainbow Six style attention to weapons and ballistics. Very fun but also has a fair amount of gameplay bugs, performanc issues and stability problems (didn't have any myself).

I myself played it on the following system at 1280x1024, Full Dynamic Lighting with near maximum details:

X2 4400+
2GB DDR400
X1900XT 512mb
X-Fi sound card
Windows XP

I was getting about 45fps average with a minimum of 20fps; very playable for this sort of game since it isn't very fast paced. With FDL the game uses huge amounts of normal mapping and pixel shading so performance might suffer on the X1950pro since that has 36 pixel shaders vs 48 on the X1900XT. If I was going for a new card right now, I'd definitely get the 8800GTS 320mb or wait for the HD 2900XT/XL, both of which will run stalker a lot better than the X1000 series. The 8800GTS 320mb is incredibly cheap for what it can do.

EDIT: Forgot to mention how awesome the atmosphere is in the game. Honestly it's so good I had to edit this post to let you know, lol. Just make sure you have a good set of headphones and good sound card.

Actually i get about 42fps in stalker, with full details, and FDL and 1280x960 or somit res. Btw when i said about 30fps limiter, i must have been thinking about a diff game perhaps TDU or somit.

Actually i used fraps but for some reason the fps display didnt show in the screenshots. But i remembered what they were when took.

I run a Shuttle XPC so I cant get pci-e and card has to be single slot cooler.

I'm not to worried abot FRPS, as long as it's playable?
