Ive just ran it. My laptop scored 15917. Graphics score was 22171 physics score 11640 combined score 6207.

I'm not sure how this compares with other laptops with similar spec.

Interesting, I would have expected the GTX 1080 to outperform my mildly tuned GTX 1070 in your larger form factor my some margin.

Graphics Score 19510, Physics Score 13035, Combined Score 7773 Overall score - 15919 (not my highest score either) - https://www.3dmark.com/fs/14356419

I have everything stock. My driver version is a good six month out of date. To be honest I'm not sure which drivers to use. Default Nvidia ones or the ones from msi aimed at My laptop model. It's my first gaming laptop so I'm still learning. It's played my games fine so I've always been happy. I might do a but tinkering

I recommend some good old tinkering ;)

And my drivers are from May 17 - I get the best performance with these drivers, odd but true.

Very nice, makes my machine look slow, but of course it is anything but :)

Gryph, how do you find your eGPU performs?

Performs perfectly for me - I grabbed the Amplifier when my motherboard died in my desktop (4690k system at 4.6ghz) setup, intending it to tide me over before I got replacement/upgrade parts. Turns out that the laptop with eGPU is performing slightly better than my desktop, so put upgrade plans on hold until later this year.

Benchmarks from Timespy 1.0
6406 - eGPU and laptop
6240 - same 1080 and 4690k

Mainly play CoD WW2, PUBG, 7DtD, Rift titles, etc.

I'll sort my drivers later and run a firestrike benchmark, as the last one I ran was a bit low at 14500 or so.

Very curious to see a side by side of your firestrike scores and timespy if you have them. That EGPU score sounds pretty damn good, I'd always heard eGPU took a substantial hit over native GPU, but maybe that is improving as they tweak drivers etc...

By rights the 4690k should be faster than the 6700HQ, but then the extra threads may be coming into play.

May of course be that Alienware's Amplifier is more optimised...

Do you use an external screen or the internal one?

I've collected my results together, and hopefully you can see the full details at the URLs (the most recent one I've had to create a new account for as I could not remember my un/pw)

Timespy the 6700 and eGPU scores slightly higer, and Firestrike the 4690k and 1080 as an internal card scores higher.

Few things to note

4690k at 4.6
6700hq at stock
GPU at stock
All connected to external Acer x34 monitor, desktop res 3440x1440
Windows not in the slightest bit optimised - just the everyday gaming rig(s).
All drivers downloaded from Nvidia, already on my machine or upgraded via Geforce Experience

Timespy
6406 - 1080 as eGPU & 6700hq - https://www.3dmark.com/spy/2507743
6240 - 1080 & 4690k - https://www.3dmark.com/spy/1455735
6045 - 1080 & 4690k (older drivers) - https://www.3dmark.com/spy/250156

Firestrike 1.1
15138 - 1080 & 4690k - https://www.3dmark.com/fs/11099024
15042 - 1080 as eGPU & 6700hq - https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/24659372
14305 - 1080 as eGPU & 6700hq (older drivers) - https://www.3dmark.com/fs/14681329
9485 - 970 & 4690k - https://www.3dmark.com/fs/6944496

Hope this is of some interest - it certainly gives me something quantifiable to qualify my thoughts that the laptop and eGPU has replaced my desktop happily until I can decide what to upgrade to desktop wise this year!

Also the USB 3.0 hub on the Amp plus the meagre USB ports (1 x 3.0, 2 x 2.0) on the laptop itself is happy to run the Oculus Rift and 2 x sensors happily.

(Edit to add info on standard drivers)

Specs in sig :)

Run the CPU at 4.7Ghz for 24/7 with an undervolt.

1080s run at about 1950Mhz average clock under gaming loads.

When home it drives a 1440p 144hz panel.
