The time for a new mouse is nearing, my current MX518 is getting tired and worn. I've always been a firm believer in the MX518, I've owned three of them and they're amazing mice - especially when you factor in their low cost. That said and done, they're showing their age when you compare other optics, resolutions and feature sets... so I'm currently wondering (hesitantly) about switching to another mouse.

Current thoughts are:

Sidewinder X8: low latency wireless, decent optics, but rubbish aesthetics imo.
Cyborg Rat 5: Great customization and stunning aesthetics, nifty thumb-switch for on-the-fly DPI lowering - but apparently has a rubbish sensor that moves during re-aim
Razer Deathadder: olden but golden - proven track record, but with nothing special about it.
Logitech G500: cheap, similar to MX518, massive DPI, but fugly upper case.

What's your weapon of choice, and why?

tbh, whatever I buy, I'll prob grab another MX518 for a spare anyway, as it's awesome for a no-frills mouse :)

Sidewinder X8
I've already got a sidewinder X6 keyboard, so the X8 would fit in nicely.. any idea how the size/shape compares to an MX518? I'm a lazy gamer, I palm the mouse with my whole hand.

MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 :)
My first mouse was the Intellimouse 3, and in all fairness I loved it. If I could get the exact same mouse with variable DPI, I'd be all over it.

MX518 overclocked to 500hz :D
How do you change the polling rate on a regular '518? I doubt I'd even notice the difference, but I love to tinker :p

The X8 is made for palming. You could use a claw grip too.

Compared to a mx518 its less round, but similar style of holding and there is also a rest so your pinkie doesnt drag.

Hows the wireless? Have you noticed any lag or drop-outs?

as of post #73, the MX518 is winning!

grabbed myself a Deathadder 3.5G and Goliathus cloth pad, switching from an MX518+steelpad.

The difference is amazing. I've always felt that the MX518 was a great mouse, but the Deathadder just feels so much better in ergonomcs and build feel. My pinky used to ache after a while with the MX518, which it doesn't with the DA, and the general texture of the mouse and tactile buttons is much better imo. Brilliant mouse, I'm very happy with the switch :)
