What general tools do you need to build a pc?

Standard array of philips, pozidriv and some sockets (Motherboard standoff size at least) for basic work.

Add in hex, torx/tamper resistant torx for more advanced stuff.

Some other tools can be handy but usually not needed. For example - Bottle nosed pliers, heatgun for shrinkwrap on custom braiding, multimeter etc

I use the same kit on PCs as I do my car. Halford Professional kit, bought on the very frequent half price/£99 discount.

A normal scredriver (Philips)

That's pretty much all that's required. Occasionaly you need to grab some other things, but they're definitely not essential. Plier type snipper things to cut tie wrap ends... As you can see I don't know much about DIY :(

I have a little hex screw that fits over the standoffs and then you turn it with a scredriver so no need for a socket wrench thingy.

Very rarely do I need pliers. Pliers and motherboards don't mix well. If something needs forced, your doing it wrong! Although there is the odd exception.

Oh... and a hammer when it all goes wrong and you need instant relief!... Sledge hammer btw!
