Hey guys havent poste on here for years, so apologies for my lack of knowledge. Im wanting a gfx card for my lad and need advice. On OC uk there seems to be 2 options
The 4gig geforce 970 at 250 quid https://www.overclockers.co.uk/zota...ess-graphics-card-zt-90101-10p-gx-071-zt.html
Or the gecorce 980 ti at 250 quid. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-304-ms.html

He uses it for gaming. Is there much difference? Or are there any others out there for 250 auid arouund that price

Lol at my rig spec, that shows how long i have been out of the game

The 970 is a great card or for the same money you could grab a 390 and they perform pretty similar. The 780Ti is getting on now and I would rather have the 970 over the 780Ti personally.

Out of the 970 or 390, flick a coin :)

The 970 is a bit newer than the 780Ti. If you run both side by side there is no real difference, so I think the 970 edges it slightly for the newer technology. The 390 is also worth a shout, again these cards perform very similarly, but the 390 has shown promising performance with future DX12 games.

What he said.

I think myself would go for the 390, not that I've got anything against the 970 but the thought of having more ram than you would proberly ever need would sway me

Sorry one last thing. Xxxx have the r90 8gig at the same price but with free delivery. The thing is it doesnt say it is a nitro, yet the cote clock and the memory clock is higher than the r90 on here.

Can anyone elaborate/explain the difference, if any

I'd remove the name of the competitor shop if I were you. ;)

And you'd have to give detail of the specific card. Differences off the top of my head will be the clocks and the cooling. Check that the version you settle on will go into your sons case. The nitros were too long for mine so I went MSI and am VEY VEY happy.

My advise to you is avoid buying from them. If your graphic card ever go faulty and you need rma the card to them, the word going around is that they will give you an unreasonable compensation with stupid things like your length of usage, depreciation and other rubbish like that. They would either refund you money that's not enough for you to even buy 2nd hand card of the same model to replace, or offer to replace your card with a slower, cheaper, lower teir one (while they send off your card to the manufacturer to get a brand new shiny card to put back onto their shelf)

Having owned a 970 and currently owning a 980 in my machine and a 390 in the wifes, i would go for the 390 it edges the 970 in performance in my opinion and the vram may or may not come in useful later on

Gtx 970 these overclock fantastic and get very close to a stock gtx 980. The 390 while a good card is not a good overclocker, runs hotter and uses more energy.
Also in any nvidia gameworks game (fallout 4) then the gtx 970 will have a huge advantage in fact many games don't get on with amd drivers.
The gtx 970 is the way to go.

dont get me wrong both cards are very good, but future proof wise i think the 390 nips it in the bud, Temp/power actually there are 970's that pull more than the 390's if you take some of the pre overclocked ones. so really thats a bit of a here nor there. the amount of electric you will use.... seriously ? its not even worth considering. however the 390 does perform better than a 970 from what i have experienced. but its all very close. pay your money and take your choice but having owned both cards if i was to have to buy one of them again the 390 would be my choice (and i was a nvidia fan for years and still am hence i own a 980)

I agree though, in the end the 970 isn't a bad card but it is just a bit overshadowed by a more powerful, more future proof and usually slightly cheaper card.

That's it, I wouldn't seriously weigh in on electric cost unless you really needed to worry about bills anyway :p Just my opinion but 980ti and up nvidia is winning but lower than that you're better off with AMD really.

So wots the difference between the r9 390 nitro and the black edition. The core and mem clock are abot the same yet the black edition is 40 quid cheaper on ocuk?
