Thanks for looking

I'm doing a build at the moment and the specs are:

Intel Core i5 2500k
Asus P8Z68-V Gen 3
Corsair Vengeance 8Gb (Will be 16gb)
XFX 650w Core Edition
Zalman Z9 Plus Case

EDIT: 1920 x 1080 res

Basically I'm doing a cheap-ish build for Uni which will have plenty of power and will be futureproofed etc...

I cant decide on graphics card. I will do some gaming, not heavy but I want to be able to play games on high detail, maybe even some on max but still have the power so that I can still play games to come in a years time (even if not at highest settings)

I've looked at the 560Ti and this seems a good card. With regards to budget I'm not really sure so for now I'm gonna say between £150 - £250, but I don't wanna get a £250 card and end up not using it. I wanna be able to game, but it doesn't need to cost the earth if you get what I'm saying.

Also I need to have a quiet card, under load a bit of noise is fine, but ideally I want a card that will be whisper quiet when idling :)

I'd go for something with a bit more grunt, one of the 560ti/6950 with a decent aftermarket cooler would be my choice.

FYI my 6950 tf3 is less loud than my H70 even under load without a side panel (where temps are higher than with it on)

Thats what I mean, I'm willing to spend a little more for something that is worth it and will be useful in the future, but not overly powerful. Looking at bench's the 6870 and 560Ti are on par, even tho the 560Ti is a lot more expensive :/

May I ask why/how you know this, looking at some bench's (and I've had a quick look before) they seem very level pegging in different areas?

Most of the benchmarks I've seen / video reviews show the 560ti (non 448) and the 6950 as performing closely together. The 448 version is a little faster than the 'ordinary' 560ti, sitting between that and the 570.

Skip to around 13:45 for the conclusion if you don't want to sit through the whole video.

Watched that review and I like the look of the 448, but thats gonna cost bout £230 average. Could get a 6950 for around £200.

How do these two compare?

The 448 is basically a gtx 470 with higher clocks.

So it would be slightly faster than the 6950.

But.

The Radeons have twice the amount of VRAM (well nearly) and in Battlefield 3 you need as much as you can get. And I would imagine that's how it will stay now.

There's also a way to unlock the textures in RAGE to ultra, and Crysis 2 DX11 with the ultra textures guzzles VRAM also.

I'd take the 6950 by a whisker, given that it's cheaper.

So is the benefit of the VRAM important then? Any benefits from the 560 448? Like do they typically run quieter or does that depend on the card.

I need something that will be quiet until I use it.
