I had almost every major console since the nes up to the ps2/360. I was bored of this gen so decided to splash out on a pc for gaming. now i cant go back
Civ 1 on 4 floppy disk: played a borrowed copy non-stop for a couple of days on a neighboor's PC. And a year later, that was Cannon Fodder, played on a mate's PC. I had to get myself a machine.
Started off getting a CPC464 as a gift from an Uncle. Then moved onto an Atari ST, then naturally progressed on to PC's as we know them now.
Think some of the first games I played on PC were Doom and Screamer. I picked up my first console, a PS1, in 97/98 and have owned all consoles since then. But my preferred and primary platform has always been the PC.
Lode Runner! I managed to get it somewhere and it's STILL awesome. 2 player on 1 kb as well! What got me back into it was BFME though, and the fact that it didn't run on my rubbish lappy is what got me into system building... and into trouble with my gf
My dad bringing home a PC from work, I'd already sampled the likes of Civilization and Populous 2 on friends PC and knew I wanted to play games on it.
edit: IMO the "killer app" for PC gaming has to be Doom, that is the game that really made people sit up and start taking it seriously as a platform, it also laid the foundations for things we still see to this day like multiplayer deathmatch, mapping/modding community etc. At the time there simply wasn't anything remotely close to Doom on any console.
I was quite late to pc gaming, (cosoles only previously), medal of honor allied assault on my brothers pc got me started, loved it so much i built my own machine to play it on.
I went on holiday to India a couple of years ago, I only took one magazine, a custom PC guide to building a gaming PC which I picked up at the airport.
I read it from cover to cover at least 5 times, then came back and built a PC
Always enjoyed gaming but what made me jump to pc was Morrowind.
A friend had it and that was me hooked up all night literally engrossed
thinking it was the best thing ever. After that I bought a pc and that's me ever since just a shame pc gaming has lost its way a bit
Age of Mythology, fantastic game and I expanded into the RTS genre and then starting looking at PC gaming as a whole. But I do equally divide my time between PC and Console these days.
I remember reading a review of Unreal in Edge magazine, and how good it looked with a 3dfx card(had no idea what that mean,t),i then read somewhere about GPL,i went and bought a pc,added a 3dfx card(12mb Orchid righteous),and, both the above games, and was hooked.
also bought in the months following,Half Life, and Sin,and preferred the latter.
Murdered a woman and had to stay inside to hide from the cops. This obviously developed into love for games like Deus Ex, my first modern title that I enjoyed, this all obviously stemmed from Wolfenstein 3D.
Playing Doom at a mates house on his 386 or whatever it was then.
Can't remember if I still had my Spectrum +2 at that point or if I was on to my Atari ST but seeing Doom on the PC just blew me away at the time.
