what GPU do i get???

building my self an i7 gaming rig soon and looking for the fastest GPUs i can get but i dont know what? do i go with a GTX285 or ATI 4890 or do i go SLI or crossfire my buget is around £400-£800

If you want the best gear mate, wait for a couple of weeks =) the new ATI cards are being released soon, and they'll most likely be faster than Nvidia's offerings, as well as driving the price of all current tech down. If you can't wait, get yourself two 4890s, they are absolute cracking cards and overclock really well. SLI'd GTX275s are roughly the same performance wise but model for model cost around 25-30 quid more

2x 4890s and 2x 285s will roughly be the same speed and take blow for blow agenst each other.

£400-800 is plenty OTT imho, your better off waiting 2-3 weeks untill the new Direct X 11 cards are out from ati 58xx, as that would be the most sensible thing to do at the minute.

There are bargains to be had right now, but if you have a £400 budget (rather than around £120 odd) then waiting would be the most sensible thing to do.

you do speck truth however, what happens if the computer in question is not up to the standard of the owner anymore? like when my second HD4870 broke on me so I was stuck with single 512, it still did what I wanted but not very well.

in that case than you should upgrade your PC, if it does do what you want and to your standard than leave it alone till you get more BANG
