Hi again, just a quick one , well may not b quite that quick, would like a few opinions on this. What are you better off with in a gpu for gaming at high resolutions? For instance i am gaming at 5760x1200 and my 3 bfg 260s are just and i mean just coping. Is it better to have more memory, for instance the new 580 3gb cards or is this not the main thing to look at. I would go for them in sli, however evga dont do a 3gb one if memory really does make that much difference and i like the 10 year warrantys they do as opposed to gigabyte and palits 3gb version and 2 yr warranty. All opinions and anyone using a similar setup please let me know. Thanks.

I didn't know you could even go that high in resolution? What kind of display are you using, I like nvidia cards too, but there is dual gpu ati 6990 with has 4GB and powers 6 displays on it's own.

Yeah you can go to this res as I have 3 screens setup in surround display, that's whY I want nvidia swell due to the 3d being a lot better than on the ati cards. Does anyone else have any input on this one pls. Cheers

Bump, does no one have any experience or input on this? Or would 1.5 gb cards in 3 way sli be just as good as 3gb on the 580s at this resolution? Cheers

why would they put an extra 2gb on if you cant use it?

its due to the way they render as for sli/xfire even when they are on the same card each graphics chip cores render 1 frame each so ie 2 GTX 580's each one renders one frame each but die to each frame having different information also needs different e memory for each so that 2 GB is used twice for different frames but you could place a 4GB game on it.

I understand that with 2 cards the memory does not double. So really that card is only 2 gb like your saying and really that's false advertisement because it will only ever be 2 gb

When I had a 4870X2 there was talk about a driver update being able to let both gpu's communicate to therefore allow 2gb of usable memory but alas it never happened. I agree, it is a false advertisement and imo is wrong.

a few year ago i had a 9800gtx+ then got another because i was playing GTA and need a fair computer for that. and when i put the other card in and looked at the memory i was gutted lol so i sold them and got a better card with more ram

Would be better if they actually had some small print or something that explained the reality though, but yes, technically (or not ;)), it does have the amount physically on the board.
