what GPU should I get for around 250 £

If you don't mind a graphic card with a reference cooler that "might" become a bit noisy under load, it's really worth stretching to £310-£330 and get the R9 290 Pro instead...as bang for bucks wise, it's actually better than the 280x and the GTX770 around the £250 price range.

Or just wait for one more month (give you some time to save up another £70 as well if you can't pay that extra at the moment) manufacturers to release the 290 Pro with custom coolers etc.
