Hi guys im window shopping already for my xmas pressi from the wife :P Im in need of a good gpu, have narrowed it down to 2 maybe 3 depending on you guys input.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-194-EA&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=2255

or

-_- the one i faved is gone, it was the ati asus hd7970 platinum matrix one.

My 3rd option was this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-290-AS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=2294 I've heard the 680 is not much of a performance jump from the 670 to justify the price increase hence the 3rd option.

I have no desire to crossfire graphix or faff about with overclocking coz i aint got a clue.

Many thanks for any help that may come my way :)

Please forgive my ignorance, but is it not better to have 4gig than 2? I hard to belive i actually built and setup my own pc when i dont really know what im talking about lol.

I was going to wait and see what the next gen one's were but there most likely to be over my price range? 600 is my uttmost really.

I was looking at a 7970 and really liked the look of the matrix platinum one but it seems to be gone from overclockers shop :( I was going to get the msi lightening one http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-181-MS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=938

But heard it was rife with problems :(

The only real time 2GB isn't enough is heavily modded games, Skyrim with everything turned on for instance, or surround gaming with 3+ cards. Less than that you just dont have enough grunt to turn on the settings that would push over the ram limit, AA etc.

So for you with a single card, 2GB is fine, even with 1600p screen.

I'd personally wait till closer to time you're going to buy, new cards with a proper size bus will be out and should most certainly be under £600 budget.

Looking at Lightnings and Matrix Platinums are a waste of money if you're not overclocking, as they won't offer any advantage over the bog standard ones.

Something like a custom cooled 7950 seems like it would be much more appropriate for you than a very expensive 680 or 7970.

As for the RAM size, 2GB will be enough for the most part, but really buying a 2GB now isn't the smartest idea when taking future games in to consideration, as the RAM usage will just go up, and some games are pushing 2GB cards hard already.

I would get one of the highly clocked out the box 7950/70s to be fair. If you can get a 7950 which is close to 1000 MHz out the box or a 7970 around 1100 MHz you'll be sorted. The 7970 will be a touch faster - although not enough to tell to the naked eye - but it also costs more so....

7970 is around 5% quicker than a 7950 at the same clock speed so... Equating to around 2-5 FPS depending which isn't going to make MUCH difference but it's up to you.

Any difference a 7970 will offer, won't be noticeable unless you're watching the FPS counter anyway, and the difference will never be the difference between playable FPS and unplayable.

I have to say I'm very happy with the performance from my Sapphire HD 7970 OC BOOST 3072MB when I looked into the what gpu should I get debate AMD & nvidia do seem to breake even especially when your not looking to run everything at the highest res possible.

Urm i've been a bit of a ******! Dont know why i didnt come here first tbh. I got borderlands 2 yesterday and the gpu im useing atm dont like it at all with phsyx on :S So i thought sod it i'll get a cheap half decent upgrade that will last me untill i just go ahead and get a whole new machine. So i bought this one after doing a bit of reading. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-297-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1699 I was going to get the nvidia gtx 650 but everyone said it was worse than the 7770. Then just randomly i went on game-debate.com to put in my gpu now and the new one. The new one is worse according to that site and the 650 i was looking at a lot better! My head hurts can somone please advice me on the better one? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-207-EA&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=2392 <--- the 650. Im useing a ati hd 6850 xfx one at the moment. Im just hoping if it turns out the 650 is better i can change it before the 7770 gets sent out, or perhaps i could just overclock the 7770? Sorry to ramble i've got myself all stressed out lol.

Cant for the life of me figure out how to turn it off, found out how to turn it on withing the ini file but no were tells you how to turn it off. Being an ati card i have atm the in game options dont work :S If not the 650 optimal then stick with the 7770?

@Suarez sorry to post amazon on here but how else am i to show what card i've got if ocuk dont sell them? Waitings not an option now as i've already bought the 7770 from oc.

A straight answer would be nice lol

No trading or hinting outside of MM lol.
The 7770 is faster than the 6850, the chance are the graphs you saw were out of date pre 12.11 drivers.

The 7850 is a much better all round card though, and only a tad more expensive so good choice eventually :D
