What GPU would you pick out of 3?

Hey all,

Looking to upgrade my 6800xt I have around £900 to buy one, It'll be purely for gaming, I've watched tons of vid about them all and one seems better, then the next one seems better, I cant 100% decide whats going to be best bang for buck.

The choice are:

4070ti super at £779
7900xt at 765
7900xtx at 834

I've always been with AMD so not sure if RT is worth it or not or even if the 4070 can do RT at a decent level. So if you was to buy a GPU today, what one would you be getting?

What resolution do you play at?
Any upgrade plans later?
Does RT or DLSS mean much to you?
I play at 4k on a LG C2 42"
Only plans to upgrade in the future is my cpu currently have a 12400 I5
RT Or DLSS would be nice RT especially just to try out more then anything, not sure if it's a gimmik or not really.

The 7900 XTX would be my choice of those. The extra grunt over the XT is worth the £70.

The XTX can do RT about as well as a 4070/Ti, I believe, so it's not a case of giving up RT completely with the AMD cards. Personally, I don't think RT is worth the performance hit, but you can turn it on using your 6800 XT and see if it wows you enough to be worth it.

My main considerations for not buying the AMD card would be that DLSS is better than FSR and the 4070 will use quite a bit less power.

The 4080 Super may also be worth a consideration if you decide you want a card with better RT performance, though it does stretch your budget a bit at £959.

4K 120 rules out the 4070 for me. I'd either buy the XTX or stretch to the 4080 Super if you really want DLSS/RT features.

Personally, i would go with the Sapphire 7900XT Pulse for 739.99 or Sapphire 7900XTX Pulse for 899.99.

Also, for the money you're spending don't buy any card with less the 20GB of VRAM.

A card with only 16GB of VRAM for 779. You'd need to be off yer head paying that IMO

I would say 7900xtx and at this price if your budget allows, might as well save a tiny bit more and get the 4080super. You gaming at 4k so need all the performance you can get, specially if you plan on keeping the card. Normally I tell people to upgrade don't wait if you need, but being so close to new 50xx series cards not sure its worth spending ~£1000 on a card now. Your 6800 should easily last till new 50xx series by adjusting setting @4k and get respectable framerates. If you had 1080ti then by all means upgrade but 6800xt is not bad at all.

7900 XTX easily out of those three. I think the 4070 TI Super is the poorest value of NVIDIA's current lineup. Most would be better served saving a bit by going for the 4070 Super, or spending a bit more on the 4080 Super.

So if we nailed it down to the 7900xtx then brought in a new contender the 4080 super the XTX can be had for £939 while the 4080 is £1019, is the 4080 worth the extra £80 for the few extra features?

At this stage your 6800xt might see you through another generation- would put that £1000 to better use getting a 60 series or Rx9000 card.

Unless that money is burning a very big hole I’d hold off.

Why not try it out on your current card? The 6800 XT is perfectly capable of enabling all the RT effects in games. The framerate might not be much to shout about afterwards, but it at least lets you preview the visuals and decide whether you find it particularly life-changing or not.

If you shop around you could recently get an XTX for £800. They've since gone up to £835 for the MSI and £840 for the PowerColor so not quite as compelling. The 4080 Super can be had for £959 direct from the manufacturer but is currently out of stock.

I would agree with the other comments that a 6800 XT is still enough GPU though, at least until the next gen.

I'm leaning to keep the 6800xt and wait it out, hope its not too long of a wait tho, cant find anything online with dates other then a 5090 before the end of the year, but assuming that'll be the £2k card then 5080,5070 maybe Feb but that's me guessing.

Being in the same situation, except that I've already got my 7800x3d installed and I only game at 1440p, I'd say 7900XTX or wait.
I've been a Sapphire Nitro+ card user for my previous two cards and the only thing keeping me from the top end Nitro+ is that it's still pricey, and to be honest, with summer just around the corner I'll probably be gaming less.
If I can hold out until the 8900 or similar series I guess I'll see more of an improvment. Did read something about AMD maybe not going toe-to-toe with Nvidia next time round so we'll see what transpires.
