What Graphics Card To Get?

Well, after Christmas has came and gone I have now found myself with £260, I've now been thinking, should I get rid of my old GeForce 8600GS that came with the PC and upgrade it.

Right now I have a 440 - 480 Watt PSU, which made me think, I'll need a better PSU to power it, so I was looking at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-030-OC for a new PSU and was wondering if this was a good one.

So from if I buy that it will take £70 out of my amount, leaving me with £190 to spend on a Graphics Card, I was looking at http://overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-091-PC because it looks like a powerful card, but I'm not sure if it is good for the price, is there anything else in this price range that will be better for the cheapest price? Everyone wants to get their moneys worth :P

Thanks in advance,

Matt

well the psu will run that with ease but tbh you could get just get away with a 500watt psu and i would deffo go with with that card 4870 1gb version

The card is a good choice, however it may be overkill depending on what resolution you use on playing games (except Crysis.).

PSU is overkill as well unless you plan on buying another 4870 & using crossfire.

OCZ PSU aren't the best, but they certainly arent too bad for the cash. The 700W OCZ will do what you need it to, but to be fair you might be overspending a lil as I dont think you need a PSU of that level, could probably spend around £60 on something like the 600W equivalent and still be fine; I'm running my machine in sig on a 520W.
This would leave you a little more cash for card/pub. For the money both the 4870 and GTX260 are good cards, if you got for the GTX260 get the 216 version though as its consistantly a 5-10% faster than the original version, the 1GB 4870 is the 4870 to go for as it seems to be consistantly slightly stronger than the 512 version, and with the small price difference atm...

Which manufacturer?

I'm also looking at a graphics card upgrade, and have decided on a 1Gb 4870, but notice that there's a price difference between makes, though running at the same specs. Why would anyone consider an alternative to the cheapest option?

The new GTX 260 55nm comes out later this week... at comparable prices to the current cards, the EVGA SSC is an easy choice!!!

The new 55nm 260-216 would be a good idea if you can wait.

And that PSU would be overkill unless you want SLI/X-Fire. A good 550W will run a high end single card easily, see my sig.

I currently have a 22" monitor set on 1650 x 1050, which will be what I'm goingt o play my games on.

I don't plan to use it on crossfire as my mobo wont do that, although in the future I might do this, but not the near future anyway.

What would be a nice choice for a PSU then?
