Hi

I want to buy a good graphics card for my rig, but I don't want to make silly boo-boo in buying one, then finding out it's too big. Look at the pics & tell me what would fit.

thanks

looks like any graphics card would fit, theres no problem with clearance, you could proberbly even fit 8800GTX in there if you cleared up that wiring...

Edit: take some measurements of how much space you got

I would strongly advise against a DX9 card now...
The 8600 series cards are out soon - they are DX10 ready, and are very small and thin....

Even though there are no DX10 games out at all, and we don't actually know for sure how much they will cost, or indeed wether they will offer any increased performance over some of the current cards.

I am sorry but it would be foolish to buyt previous gen hardware now.
An 8600 GTS is reputadely faster than a 7900 GT in DX 9 applications - that is pretty fast.

Would you advise someone buying a new CPU to get a single core? No you wouldnt.
If he buys a DX 10 card he will not need to upgrade again for much longer...

Because dual-core technology has been the standard for around two years. DX10 and Vista have not.

I dont think you would have any problems fitting any current cards in there, possibly even an 8800. If thats a bit much i would wait a few weeks till the 8600 are about if you can't wait get an x1950 pro.

Doesn't matter if you won't use the 8600 for dx10, it'll be faster at dx9 anyway, produce less heat use less power which in a shuttle is great news.

i have the aspire case you have and i dont think there is any cards released that wont fit in it as long as there is space on your mobo for 2 slots or whatever

As far as I have heard the 8600's don't pack much punch then a X1950XT on DX9 with high reslutions, im sure I saw a benchmark somewhere on a review site. I play games on a Philips 19" CRT. Even if I got a Mid Stream 8600 it would be a waste of money even it is dx10 compatible.

I Was currently using Vista x64, but gone back to xp - for gaming & have no plans yet to go back to Vista until games & drivers are better supported, regardless of it having dx10.

Apart from crysis I've not heard of any other games coming out on DX10, even thats been delayed.

It's a toss up between a high end cheapest 8800 320mb card or a X1950XT 256/512MB ???????

Crysis
Stranglehold
Alan Wake
War Front
These are the ones I KNOW about, there are probably more...

Plus support in games like:
Company of Heores
Supreme Commander
Halo 2
UT 3
and many others....

Unfortunately it's Vista only. The 8800 series still has the best DX9 performance at the moment, though.
