It depends how long you want the card to last you really. If we are talking till after Christmas then it's great because Nvidias new line of cards will have come out by then and the 8800 series will have gone down in price. The X1950 is a good card, as is the 8800GTS320.

Get a 1950pro and an E6550 or 6750 in my opinion and save some cash to get the next gen of cards when they are out.
They do provide a significant boost in multi-threaded apps.
It's impossible to ever get twice the perfomance...sort of like sli.
some people actually need them, majority use them as e-pen and the rest can afford them so they don't care
