Hi all

Bit out of touch since i built my own rig over 2 years ago, specs below.

P5K Premium Motherboard
C2D 6600 2.4 GHz
4 GB Ram 6400 DDR2
Asus 8800 GTX Graphics card 768M
Coarsair 620 Watt PSU

My 8800 GTX has just died and Im just going through the process of sending it off for assessment as it is still in warranty - not sure how long this is going to take so looking to get a mid range replacement - any ideas.

Regards in advance.

depends on your budget.

it will be the HD4850 or the 9800GTX, however the HD4850 last time i checked beat it

Welcome to the forums :)

Might be handy if we knew your budget, use of the pc (i.e. heavily gaming, browsing, etc) and resolution?

But like AMG a 4850 or GTS 250 would be about right.

Thank you for the swift response.

Not sure on a budget because if i get a replacement for my 8800 GTX then i will sell one of them.

I play BF2, Crysis etc on a 22" Samsung monitor 1680 x 1050 as well as browse the net...

Maybe £100 - £150 max. Do the above mentioned out perform the 8800 GTX already?

The 4850 and 4870 are faster than the 8800gtx but the 4870 1gb would be the best upgrade imo. On the Nvidia side the 260 (216 core) as the best upgrade imo

the HD4890 will be a bit of a over kill for that reslotion as the HD4870 1gb would, as it don't porform much better than the HD4850 at that, I did that research before I brought mine as i had a 17inch CRT at the time. Good for feture prooving through in case one does get a better screen than by all means get a HD4870/GTX260 or even a HD4890/GTX275

why do people insist on saying this? It's simply not true.

2x 4890's would be overkill for that resolution sure but one? there are a fair few games that would be knocking on 30fps if you maxed everything and whacked on some AA. For me 45 fps+ is needed for a really enjoyable gaming experience.

I was berly stating the fact that a HD4850 can hadle itself at that reslotion as well as the bigger cards, its more of a waste tbh further on i hint of upgrading screen than by all means get a bigger card or its going to cost extra to replace ;)hence why i got a HD4870 rather than a 50 cos I knew I was going to upgrade my screen

and now I m upgrading to two HD4890. as I game at full 1920x1080 or more with 4xAA and I want more frame rates :(
