Ok so here is likely to cause a massive NVIDIA vs RADEON argument ...

I am building a new machine and naturally need a new graphics card

So here is the deal

I do not play 3d games so not too bothered about 3d capabilities
I will never put more than one card in the PC so the SLI / Crossfire thing is not an issue

I will however wish to use HDTV output to my projector for movie watching
and will use video editing etc.
I use CAD and othe graphics programs but I dont do much 3d so I don't think this is a big issue

I want it to be quiet so tiny little fans that go at a million revs per minute are not friendly

I chose the OcUK Galaxy GeForce 7900 GS Silent but this is quite expensive I think for my purposes

are there any alternatives
I have always been an Nvidia user so I would need some pusuading to change but have a go anyway

i use a lot of cad and know for a fact that its more about the ram and cpu that you have rather than the gpu you use that will determine how it runs.

You want something quiet? just stick to a low budget and get yourself a 7300 card of some description - more than adequate for your needs

Thanks for the tips

any of the cards at the 7300 spec support HDTV?
most I have seen seem to state TV-out and I have to up the spec to get one that states HDTV-out

OR THIS ONE
OcUK Galaxy GeForce 7300 GT Superclocked SILENT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-005-GL)

Those Zalman coolers are very quiet, and with the GDDR3 that will be plenty quick for your needs. Get that one! :)

Thanks guys

that is about 60 quid saved there

always worth a few posts on here when looking to upgrade

OcUK rock !
