What grease should i be using for brake calipers?

Hay guys,

I'm just about to do a brake pad change and I've just read up I've been wrong for years. Apparently copper grease shouldn't be used on sliding pins as it affects the rubber? I've read I should get silicone grease but I'm struggling to fond any. Looks like euro do qx red rubber will that do? It's a little on the large side but it the only one I can find that same day collection.

Thank for the reply. Will that be OK to use in the piston when cleaning up?

Edit planning to use Triple QX Red Rubber Grease.

I just use ceramic grease these days.
This one at the minute. Use it on my mountain bike a lot as well as antiseize.

Somthing like Arctic Hayes Silicone Grease Tub 100g for slider and piston after a tidy up?

No idea about that particular one as it looks like that's for plumbing, the important thing is to make sure it's not oil based or it can attack the rubber sleeves and o-rings

Copper grease shouldn't go anywhere on a brake job. Silicone grease on sliders is best, red rubber grease is ok too. For the pads, grease the contact areas of the pads with either ceramic grease, or my preferred grease, which is Bosch Superfit.

Yea I'm not that, bad yes I know you need to use the red grease around anything rubber.

I stand by by copper grease application on the metal to metal contact parts though, although admittedly I've done a break job since that thread and I did tone down the amount a bit.

Budforce buttered his pads up like hot toast IIRC.

Just to clarify this in case it isn't obvious to anyone, contact areas means contact with the calipers, NOT with the disks!!

silicone grease or rubber grease... on pins or sliding parts... never on the disks, also just use a little bit, because if you put a lot it can run down the disks.
Some people use copper grease on the back of the pads... BUT I don't advise that.

Once a friend cleaned his disks with WD40 because they were rusty (DON'T DO THIS)

Interesting to see a couple of people recommending against copper grease on the back of pads - this is what I've always been recommended before (although we're going back 15+ years here...), in fact I'm fairly sure that's what's usually in the sachets which come with replacement pads?
