Hey all,

Was just looking through some really old screenshots, and realised I used to spend a lot of time playing through MPZ if any of you remember them?

What happened to them? I'm assuming the same thing as barrysworld etc?

Blast from the past there :)
I used to do some admin work for them as well as building a MPZ UT Portal map (join game servers from within a UT map rather than a browser. All clever stuff)

Can't recall what happened to them in the end but it never got very big. :/

I remember them.. They were based in dorset and ran by a guy called mike.. Really nice guy, think his wife helped him run it to... The servers were very good but wasnt very popular for some reason.

They probbley had the same problem as wireplay, jolt, barrysworld, gamesinferno..... Hard to make money

From my own knowledge.. had to jog memory a bit but here goes

I think they became "Burstfire" at some point in the early 2000's, absorbing some of the "mpz" services into the new brand.. for example they had supported a popular Sphere (UO emulation) server which followed into the new name (this was not uncommon, as wireplay and jolt did the same then)

(the server itself had basically one guy who acted as the liason between the company and community, he picked out the head admin and so on, the rest of the uo staff were just handpicked talented coders from the community that updated the server in their "hobby" time as well as providing user support for it)

I don't know if the old owners are involved in the current setup, but these days Burstfire appears to be a co-location provider company

Hope this helps..yeesh the stuff we randomly remember lol :)

Think you are right, I was staff when the UO server was called Burstfire but was just community side etc, just did player events, rule enforcement. IIRC it was only a few of the higher admins who did any coding (Wigifer/Wren) and I think they had consultation from one guy who used to be the main guy (can't even remember his name). He was in charge when it was MPZ so I assume he was the 'inbetween' guy but I think he may have passed that responsibilty on to the head Admin (Wigifer) when he stopped staffing.

That server was the best gaming I have ever had, miss it so much lol

MPZ is a blast from the past, agree with everyone else MPZ was the best but it was not as popular as the other gaming servers. Mike was very hellpful and would host mods any you asked.

I forgot about the portal map, it was a great idea.
