what happened to my mobo...

hi there,

so began a fresh reinstallation of windows and during the format hdd stage the pc switches itself off...

so i removed the power and felt around the pc and it was hot, very hot i.e. the cpu cooler was boiling...

anyway so I waited a few minutes and then plugged only the power in and as I had the side panel off I noticed there was a spark on the mobo, an orange almost fire like spark...

i dont dare try again...

whats happening / happened?

please help

Id say your PSU has blown, you prob wont be able to try again anyway, just keep your fingers crossed it hasnt taken anything else with it

but the spark was on the actual mobo and not on the psu....if the psu has died the system would not have powered up on the second attempt..

It could be one of components on the board failing, can you visualy check for any damaged / burnt components.

Is the board still under warranty.

You could double check the psu by linking pin 13 & 14 on the main ATX connector and just have a fan connected.
