What happened to proper cats?

In days of yore, it seemed a good number of cats had lost an eye or an ear, or both. From memory, all 1970s cats were either black and white, or black or white.

Nowadays, cats seem uniformly well groomed with interesting coats, in all colours.

I can't recall the last time I saw a cat with a missing eye, although I am told my daughter's friend's cat has only three legs, which seems to just be trying too hard.

Has anyone seen a one-eyed or one-eared cat recently? And if so, was it called "Sooty"?

It seems that all modern cats are weak, probably due to health and safety gone mad, or something.

My previous cat was a one eared white tom, with a very aggressive temperament.

The current one might as well be a beanbag.

No, Caerphilly. It is a town in Wales.

Wales is some distance from Muswell Hill, geographically and spiritually.

Things have changed, some people like to walk their cats on a lead now.

My ex tried that.

The cat just flopped onto its side on the floor and refused to move. She tried dragging it, but gave up after a metre or two, while telling me off for "being no help at all".
