What happened to the Geforce 270, 290 & GX2?

I took this in considering before buying my EVGA 260, with the 90 day step up program, if any new cards do come out over the next few months I will be able to upgrade for not much outlay, but it would be good to get some kind of confirmation if these cards will see the light any time soon.

According to Wikipedia they will just be a stop gap anyhow until 45nm cards appear early next year. But then again if the 55nm ones are taking this long to come out maybe they're having problems shrinking the dies down.

I don't think the new 270/290 cards will hold much benefit to us other than cooler running, potentially better overclocks and hopefully lower price. But I'd just rather buy the latest model rather than one just about to be refreshed.

So now Nvidia have dropped the older 192 shader version of the 260 GTX, is it fair to say by next month any GTX260 (216) sold will be a 55nm core?

Everyone knows the EVGA stepup is a joke

IIRC, Evga Setup only works when you "Setup through Evga". As a result Evga charge the MRRP which is a lot higher than shops sell them for. So you are paying considerably more for than if you bought it in a shop. On top of that Evga command quite a large premium over other card manufacturers to start with. Which is why I agree with people who say it's a joke.

Doing the math on EVGA's step-up page, it would cost me the price i paid for my 260 to upgrade to a 280, about £230, so yes, daylight robbery indeed.
