What happened to triple channel?

I was just looking into upgrading my i7 to one of the newer spec i7's in favour of the 4Ghz+ easy clocking. But now I'm reading that they are all dual channel, and that triple channel has been scrapped so as to be overtaken by quad channel later in the year.

Why is this? Why has triple channel been taken out? My current i7 uses triple channel and I would rather not lose it!

You can just get 3 dual channel kits.

I did that to get some better ram modules than I could in triple channel kits.

As for upgrading your I7, dont do it just yet, wait for the I7 970 to become even cheaper which it will after Ivy Bridge is released.
