What happens if I bin the Nvidia Chipset files with driver sweeper?

I've been trying to get a gpu to work and I'm now at a point where I think I need to ditch the chipset files but someone warned me against this the other day. The display driver isn't working, and the hdmi audio drivers are playing up as well. Is it safe to wipe the files in question?

You can but you will need to install them again. I don't see how the chipset driver will be giving you trouble. Have you binned all the other garbage Nvidia dumps on your system ?

Wiped every piece of nvidia software, cleaned the registry, used driver sweeper to take out everything but the nvidia chipset driver, cleaned the registry again, uninstalled from Device Manager and rebooted. Reinstalled. Rebooted. Still stuck in 4 bit colour.

Losing my mind.

I've never hated a card so much in all my life.

I've also tried the process listed above but then choosing the driver specifically myself. Still no joy. Ideas?

Have you tried windows update? some of the newer drivers seem to assume support for certain .net, etc. components that don't come with a default windows install.

try forcing the display driver to the generic windows one (Standard VGA Adapter), reboot and then try installing the ati drivers again?
