I've had one of my minibuses on the drive for a couple of weeks now intending to fit a new gearbox in it, vehicle is uninsured and sorn (2009 lwb transit).

Some scrotes have just hot-wired it!?!? and gone for a run, the neighbour disturbed them in the act and they have reversed out real fast into the lady over the roads passat, then gone forward scraping down the side of the next door neighbours brand new Q7.

The fuzz have recovered it already (2hrs), catching one of those involved.

So.... it is not insured/taxed, what happens to the other cars they hit?

You weren't the driver. They can't claim off your insurance even if you were insured. They need to claim off their own insurance as the driver was uninsured.

Surely a 2009 Transit has an immobiliser from the factory?

EDIT: Iit seems they do, and it's virtually impossible to "hot wire" in the conventional sense. Sure you didn't leave a spare key in it?

Unfortunately they will have to claim on their insurance policies. Some insurers offer that claiming against uninsured drivers (like your thieves were) won't effect their no claims bonus.

Remember that third party insurance is all that you legally have to have, people who take out the extra fully comprehensive insurance are doing just that, insuring encase anything like this happens.

Well, i've spoken to both of them as we're quite close on this street,

Turn's out the Q7 is a company car so he's having that sorted, the lady has just gone through a divorce and i know is skint. Turns out it's bent her front wishbone and steering rack, her insurance are sorting it for her, but as a goodwill gesture I was nice and paid her £250 excess. Kinda felt guilty and all :/

As for the immobiliser on the tranny, no idea? The police have told me it's 'another' case been passed onto Ford, and apparently *****'s are big into this starting them with a laptop to strip for parts!!.
There's no visible damage to the vehicle at all.
