What happens to mail on a 'forwarderd' server?

Hi all,

I have a mail account with my host that I have various other email idents forwarding to the main one (all Imap I think),

My question is, what happens to the mailbox of the forwarded mail - as, even though I may delete mail from my main account - the messages are not being deleted from the server it is being forwarded from (if that makes sense)?

Kind regards,

Forwarding only sends mail that that mailbox receives to a new mailbox. And that's the only thing it does. The original mail is still stored in the original mailbox.

Personally I would just install Thunderbird and enter all your mail accounts into Thunderbird. It'll then access all your boxes and pull the e-mails to Thunderbird, and then delete them from the boxes.

The other alternative is to use the mail filters on your boxes to forward the mail, and then delete the mail...

Yes, good point.
I think it will be easier installing all the mailboxes and checking that way, as will be a bit of a faff going into the separate boxes and deleting.
