Hey,
I currently have a laptop with Windows 7 installed. I'd like to install it on my desktop as well (since its RC will run out soon). I'm thinking of installing the RTM on the desktop and using the same serial key as is in use on my laptop?

What would happen?
If I from now on leave my laptop disconnected from the internet, would the PC be able to activate properly?

Microsoft send the heavy's round and rip you a new A hole whilst they play a video of Bill G pointing and laughing.

It'd more than likely work, it just wouldn't be legitimately licensed. You'd be just as legit if you downloaded a copy from "somewhere" that was pre-cracked, or else ran RemoveWAT to get rid of WGA altogether.

EDITED TO CLARIFY: What I meant above is that it would breach the terms of the EULA and that MS won't knowingly allow it. Just because you can easily trick the activation servers, doesn't mean you should. Pirated copies are just as bad as what you propose so obviously you shouldn't do it. I wasn't condoning you downloading a copy or using RemoveWAT on a legit trial install!

I believe that with the Release Candidate (RC) it is not a problem and as I recall, was even recommended by Microsoft

I read the OP to mean he has retail Win7 on his laptop, and since his RC on the desktop is about to naturally expire, he wants to dupe his retail key onto the desktop machine and basically run 2x systems on 1x retail key. MS definitely don't recommend that. :)
