Hey,

Im after a 20 - 40 gb hard drive player. Im not bothered about price, although I would like it to be reasonably light. I'm not to bothered about the type of display either.

What do you recommend?

many thanks :).

Do you want it just for MP3's or would you like it to play other formats?
Would you like a radio or even video playback.
Make a list of your requirements.

Ok,
In terms of formats, im not too bothered, but MP3 and WMA would be minimum. FM radio would be good, but isn't requisite. I'm not bothered about video as it's not something I would end up using.
To put it simply I want the best around for audio. :)

COWON iAudio X5 maybe. Its got all the videos etc which you say you dont need, but its meant to have amazing sound quality.

Maybe take a look at the 20GB Iriver H10, i have the 5GB version and its brilliant.

Also have a look at THIS as it seems a fairly sexy bit of kit.

The ipod video is another option, and it is a nice bit of kit, but they scratch very easily.

Had a look at a few today, tried the Sony NW-A3000B, good sound quality, nice looking, nice size and weight, and a good price. Also tried the X5L, also with good sound quality, similar to the Sony's, but also with colour screen etc (although no OLED goodness), Tried the H10 5gb, also good sound quality, (where's the stop button?). I'll also try and get my hands on the Samsung to have a listen.

Not sure which to get though :\

I've had a sony A3000 for about a month now and couldn't recommend it any more.

Battery life is superb*
Sound quality is second to none
Great looking
Cheaper than most

*Most people disable the EU volume limiter and this will decrease battery performance slightly, from 30 hours to about 25.

Yeh I did like that, although the Connect software is meant to ****, the sound quality was good though, and it is a good price. Also, can you use it as a usb drive? (i.e. as a drive on a computer without Connect?)

You certainly can, it comes up as a removable drive. Can't drop and drag music though (well, not without hacking it).

I've not had any problems with sonicstage tbh, when I first installed it, it downloaded a huge update that I think sorted most of the problems people were having.

iRiver I agree is good, but I when I listened to the H10 I found it didn't have as good quality as the older iRiver H3xx and H1xx ranges. Didn't seem to be a stop button on it either :S.
