What's a good HDD for mediaplayers as i'm not into long term storage so was thinking of getting a Samsung F3 500GB but i see a lot of people are using 1tb and bigger EcoGreen drives.

Is a Samsung F3 that much louder and unless i'm missing something like slackspace do i really need all that space of a big drive ?

.

It's not much louder but the F2's are cheaper, quieter, should last longer in theory and you don't need speed.

How much space you need depends on how much you're going to store.................

Thanks

Looking at it i think the 500GB would be enough as most MKV files seem to be a lot smaller than i thought as i expected them to be 25GB but most seem to be half that .

You'll get more for your money by getting a 1TB drive though...and it will fill up more quickly than you expect :)

I have a Samsung F3 1TB in my media PC, I didn't do much research I just bought one of the first drives I found. In hindsight I wish I went for a Samsung EcoGreen 1.5TB, mainly as it spins slower (5200rpm?) and of course the extra space.

If you want something silent I'd suggest looking for a drive that doesn't spin at 7200rpm, the hard disk in my media pc makes the most noise by far.

Definatly a Samsung F2 of some variety, either 1TB or 1.5TB.
Belive me, that space will start to fill up pretty fast :D

Is the noise of the F3 the read/write heads moving or does the 7200rpm make a spindle noise such as a whine or whistle. ?
