What hardware improved High Deff video playback?

Current spec is

E2220 dual core @ 3ghz

Zotac 560ti amp editon

2gb ddr2 800mhz ram

When i comes to playing large video files like 2GB plus, wmv,mpg,avi etc i get very slow seek times. i have tried various codes etc and sometimes a file that will be slow to seek in say media player classic will be fine if i play it in VLC and vice versa, i prefer media player classsic but this seems to be the one that has very slow seek times and some files are very choppy yet in vlc play fine?

Im getting a quad core q6600 soon do you think this will help?

media player classic has no hardware acceleration?

where as VLC uses the video card for hardware acceleration , what file format is choppy in VLC? the only video files ive ever found poop in vlc is 1080p wmv porn files

MPC uses or certainly can use your graphics cards video acceleration, which might expalin why it's slower. It will use key frames, so it may take a tad longer when seeking.

VLC is good for streaming any will play without using key fames when seeking, but the picture quailty might not look as good.
