My main machine is a PII 965, 4GB RAM and a 4890 which runs wow fine

The problem is my 2nd machine is a AM2 Sempy 3000, 4GB DDR 800 & a X1950 XTX

It runs like a bag of spanners and I need to upgrade it- what you lot think- GFX card or CPU first?

I get about 8fps in a City

Thanks for looking

Same here, I get 30 FPS in the city on a 3 year old PC that was mid-spec even then. Reducing multi-sampling, view distance and shadows will help it run well on almost any rig.

If it was me I'd turn down all the settings, upgrade the cpu and the graphics card.Upgrading only one will introduce a bottleneck in the other. Also even though you have 4gb of ram,ddr is a very old standard nowadays.

I think that was a typo, it will be DDR2 RAM (as it is AM2 platform and 800mhz is well beyond the capabilities of DDR).

Personally I would be looking for a CPU upgrade, that will be the bottleneck on a decent card like X1950XTX.

Obviously as mentioned you should be setting all the settings to minimum as your first port of call.

agreed i have all on lowest and res is windowed mode with view distance on good and i get a steady 30-40 fps on my laptop which is decent enough for me. :)

That's pretty good. I want to get mine looking pretty crisp as well now and I'm thinking of doing some upgrading myself. Im thinking of getting something like a I3 so I'm hoping this will make solid improvement as I'm positive the CPU is the bottleneck.

right thanks for the replies peeps

Gonna try turning down the settings and look at minor upgrades to both CPU and GFX as its my 2nd machine

Cheers
