I've got a windows phone, lots of programs, some good but:
- none of them work together
- the ui is different in each programme
- some programs don't work very well.

On playing with an iphone i noticed how the programs work together, click an address in an app and it will load Google Maps straight away for you. The speed of all apps is much faster than my phone, even things like Google Maps that i run its much faster on an iphone.

So, does any phone offer similar speed of apps, app integration, and with a standrad ui...BUT WITHOUT the annoying parts of Apple. So i can use whatever programme i want, rather than iTunes etc.

Is Andriod a realistic alternative?

Cheers

Android is your answer. Now go to a shop and test out the Samsung Galaxy S, the HTC Desire and the Google Nexus 1 to see which one suits you best ;)

what dont you like about the iphone?
sounds perfect for you.

Intrusive software that will rearrange my music, lack of flash, lack of video format support, reliance on Apple for updates and programs.

I'll give Android a shot, but dont think its as slick as iPhone

Jailbreak the phone and you can have any app you want.
Flash - can't say i miss it.
I've not once thought 'i wish I bought something else' tbh. Most peoples reasons for not liking iPhones are overdone imo

Being a former Android user for over a year and had 4 android phones and now owning a I4, atm i wouldn't go back to Android the apps fall way short to what's on Apple and games wise, but the whole phone just feels more slick as you put it but sadly the new I4 comes at a high price and don't get drawn into the antenna issue not had 1 dropped call on mine and don't get a signal drop.

The only reason i used custom roms on Android was because they failed at something and the xda developers then fixed problems with them apart from that i wouldn't have used them, the new HTC Desire hd would have to be something special for me to want it atm.

Just to add my 2p worth, I'm an Android fan, I've always liked to support the underdog. The iPhone has been around for a long time and it is a highly refined and polished device. The new Android devices are getting there, though the quality and variants of the devices does vary between the different manufacturers and Android OS releases.

My wife has an iPhone 3GS and it is ideal for her. She doesn't "tinker" with too many apps and its a safe device. My HTC Hero occasionally needed to be restarted every few weeks as I had a bunch of apps on it and they slowed it down over time. Then I got a Nexus One and its a different story, a much, much faster Android device with updates straight from the mother ship. With a 16Gb SD card its easily better than the 3GS, I can't compare it to the IP4 though I think the screen on them is simply spectacular.
With full Flash support I can watch any iPlayer show at will.
There are more than enough decent Apps on Android for me and in time the quality will only improve.

I only find Android is way behind when it comes to games, the games are awful compared to the selection on the Apple Store.

With regard to general apps, I don't think Apple is that much better in all honesty, nearly everything you could want from the Apple store can be found on the Android store.

Android is very polished in many respects, you just have to polish it yourself :p
