What has RivaTuner done to my PC!?

Hi Guys,

I installed RivaTuner 2.24 to have a go at Overclocking my 9600 GT graphics card.

I went into customising the system settings where you can adjust the slider bars to alter the clock speeds.

When I clicked the check box to enable adjustments of the speeds, it asks to detect stock settings and recommends a reboot. I go ahead and click on reboot in the dialogue box and my computer restarts.

Now, as soon as I get into windows and everything is loaded, the screen goes black, the monitor is still receiving a signal because it will say otherwise. I wait a few minutes and hit the reset button on my tower, the exact same thing happens again.

I hit reset once more and this time when windows loads, the screen goes completely blue, pink and then a mix of the two for a few seconds and then stops with everything seeming normal however everything is slow as *@%$! There is even a delay between me typing the keyboard and the letters appearing on screen.

Any ideas?????????????????????

My Spec:

Windows XP SP3
AMD Athlon 4400+
2 GB RAM
Nvidia 9600 GT (still at stock settings)

Doesnt sound good, reboot go into safe mode and remove the software. Try another version or different tool to do the overclock.

As I has some visuals this time, I went into RivaTuner and unchecked the 'enable driver level hardware overclocking' box, restarted and everything seems ok, still don't have a clue how it managed to screw everything up!

I have even had a second go at the overclock, upping the speeds to the following and remaining stable:

GPU: 650 -> 750 MHz

Memory: 900 -> 1026 MHz

Shader: 1625 -> 1875 MHz

And the result? Well in the Crysis inbuilt benchmark I get a total increase (on average) of 0.4 frames per second. Oh joy, the 3D mark GPU score has gone up but so what if it has no effect in games! Guess my CPU and DDR RAM are holding the card back somewhat....:rolleyes:

Oh and I appologise for this thread now appearing to be in the wrong forum area as I'm going on about overclocking now.

Yeah overclocking the CPU is the next port of call.

My mobo is an ASUS A8N Deluxe, I haven't really checked out the bios much yet but the clock seems to be unlocked, if you take it off 'auto' settings it looks like you can just put it to whatever you want.

My CPU seems pretty well cooled anyway, I have a heat sink and fan directly on it and another fan with a shroud facing directly onto it venting air directly out of the case.

What is a good test to stress the CPU to see my load temps?
