Hello pepole,

I have a friend (Clare) that has a software problem on her laptop where every desktop icon looks the same. first it was adobe so i uninstalled it but now icon is either vlc, itunes or ie and so on.....

What has she done and how can we fix it please!? im baffled

If it is Win2000/XP download the TweakUI powertoy from Microsoft, that has a option to rebuild icons.

She's using Vista. No the correct programs dont open when ya click on icons. They all show and open adobe.

I uninstalled adobe and the icons went back to their default... but she needs abobe for work. For some reason we can change them to all show itunes as well :confused:

To Manually Rebuild the Icon Cache using the Command Prompt

1. Close and save anything that you are working on. This command will kill explorer and restart the computer when completed.

2. Open the Start Menu, and type cmd in the search box and press enter.

3. In the command prompt, Copy and Paste each command line below and press enter after each command.

* taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F
* CD /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local
* DEL IconCache.db /a
* shutdown /r

4. The IconCache.db file has now been rebuilt.

also, is it a dodgy copy of Adobe CS*? some of those are loaded with REALLY nasty viruses/malware.

try running cleanup/malware/spyware/AV software:

CCLEANER
MALWAREBYTES
SPYBOT S&D
AVG ANTI VIRUS

This can take 4hr+ on a "friends" system.

It's Adobe pdf reader from Adobe site...

ill let her know what she needs to do. thanks
