When does a hat stop being a hat and become a helmet?

No, t's not a joke, just curious.

Thought it might be that helmets are hard and for protection. But so is a hard-hat. Then it might be that helmets cover more than just the top of your head. But what about those russian type hats with the side flaps that cover most of your head, like an open face motorcycle helmet.

Beat me to it Johnny69 but in seriousness I'd really like to buy some nice (fashionable) hats like a really oversized beanie, one of the winter hats with string bits that hang down and also a russian style hat, I'd probably look like a fag, but I'd like to buy some but I just don't know what they're called or where from.
