What have i broken ?

Slip of the screwdriver, and i've chipped this little black thing

Asus Maximus Formula SE

Mobo still powers up, but i can't try a full boot sequence as i've not got a running water loop to cool the chip.

Can anyone identify what this little thing does ?

The thing you've circled is an IC, no idea what for, but if your Mobo works, then can't be that important.

looks like it could be some something to do with fan speed control. Check the fan header to see if its working and can be controlled in the BIOS.
