What have nissan done?!

I'd guess this is to keep track on modifications with regards to the warranty they offer on the vehicle? Makes sense from their POV, its a highly strung car, you wouldnt want people modding it then claiming later under warranty for failures as a result of overtuning.

I thought there were companies such as Mine's already creating aftermarket ECUs, exhausts and the like for it?

i reckon its bs. Top Secret and MINES have already got Exhaust systems out and available to purchase, without the need for a remap. They also claim between 40 and 50bhp from it.

I think its a deal between these aftermarket companies so you only use their approved kit. Im sure I read They were given their GT-Rs from Nissan for free.

Actually is true Nissan have deliberately made it harder to modify the GTR.

This is due to them not wanting a repeat of previous GTR incarnations running 1000BHP with stock brakes etc by dodgy tuners. They don't want the car to be associated with being a dangerous car to own.

No doubt aftermarket ECUs etc will be created and these restrictions will be worked around but it is true Nissan have made it hard to modify it.

A load of rubbish really. At the end of the day with any car all you're ultimately talking about is mechanics & electronics (ECU). Sensors can be fooled or unplugged. Claiming that something is "unmoddable" is about as valid as stating that a piece of software is unhackable.

There are some Japanese tuners who have already made parts for the car including full suspension kits, full exhausts and even a piggyback ECU.

Looks like its more to do with the warranty. You can do what you like to the car, but the ECU will record it and the warranty will be invalidated becasue of it. Sounds fair enough, they dont want to be fixing problems caused by shoddy modifications under warranty.

However, changing wheels. Would that actually invalidate a warranty?

Its not a bad thing, it just means if you want a really fast gtr you have to do it propperly. That way it stops people buying the gtr new, modding it up and then when easily added 200bhp borks the gearbox the performance parts can be removed quickly and nissan are left to foot the bill. Seems like a good plan to me. I dont think they dont want you to mod the skyline, just for their own security being as it is probly the most easily tunable car in the world.

I read somewhere its beause as EddScott has said they dont want to silly 1000bhp cars with none of the safety. Also read in same place its the main reason they have been able to easy break the 280bhp gentlemans agreement...

God knows if all thats true tho.. as we have 400bhp evos lol

Its probably as said above to stop people blowing it up by raising the boost pressure and little thought of the consequences.

The tranmission will only take so much torque, maybe its already near to the limit perhaps?
