What HDs come with the mac pro

They should do for the ridiculous amounts they charge. To upgrade from the default 640gb to 1gb drive when buying a mac pro costs £80. You could buy a second 1tb for less than that.
What's that got to do with being savagely gouged on price?

Buy a second drive then. It won't affect your warranty.

He's just saying they don't because nobody really cares, it's a hard drive, spins at a given speed and stores files. If you want the couple of percent extra that model x might give you you're already buying the wrong machine to be honest.
And the price gouging (as you're calling it) is common across the industry and comes at least partly from turning an off the shelf SKU into a custom specification, which costs the manufacturer more than the cost of the other hard drive. HP and Dells server drives commonly cost far more than the cost of the bare drive and carrier could conceivably cost (and in Dells case they actually force you to buy their drives now, which isn't the case here), and they won't tell you which model drive you're getting either, merely interface type and rotational speed.
Do you void the warranty if you change the primary hard drive?

WD Black 1TB, which actually at the time of launch was the best 1Tb drive about, no?

I upgraded from the 640 to 1Tb because I couldn't be bothered selling the 640Gb!
I couldn't care less which 1TB came with my 2009 MP TBQFH.

My trusty old G5 had Seagate pre-installed, as did my G4 (30gb) Hah !!!
