Hi,
im after some help or advice,i want to overclock my trusty q6600.
i've been running it at stock since new,but recently i've been reading more and more about overclocking, and i gave it a whirl on my stock cooler.

I got it to just over 2.7ghz bit any higher and it became unstable etc,My aim is to get it just over 3ghz.
I've been looking at overclockers selection and would just like any imput or advice what to go for, my price range is 30-40 quid and it cant be gigantic.I did have my eye on the corsair air cooler which is out of stock now,any suggestions would be greatly appreiciated

thanks

Stock cooling is not going to make it very far. Did you change any voltages? I usually start with the vcore @ 1.35 volts with the Q6600 and it gets most people to 3GHz. I think 1.4volts is as far as one would go with great air cooling and 1.5 volts vcore is madness on air.

With stock cooling don't go above 1.35 volts vcore, you should not need to change any other voltages. Make sure to set the PCI freq to 100 and leave it at that.

Is that really your first post in over 4 years of forum membership?

Thanks for the reply,

i've only been taking babysteps,as i know that i need to change that stock cooler asap.I plan to order one this weekend.Could anyone suggest one? I normally find user feed back more usefull then reviews etc.

Thanks :-)

With coolers, I find that the flatness of the base plate and the integral CPU heatsink (amount of surface contact between the two) has more of an impact than the actual cooler, once you get away from the stock cooler. Zalman have a pretty decent rep manufacturing quality-wise, I've had mine on a Zalman at 3.6 for a good while now. I recommend lapping the CPU (there are guides on these forums a plenty).

Surveyor - quality, not quantity! :) lurk moar.
