What height alcove units?

We had a carpenter round to quote on building some alcove units very similar to this;

42” TV will be mounted on the wall in the right alcove - on an arm.

The carpenter was very good and thorough, even sat me on the sofa to measure my eye height (945mm).

Just wondering if the base cabinet with a height of 600mm is a bit low and might look weird? If you have built in units like the above - what height is the base unit? :)

For reference- the alcove itself is only 1m wide.

We have a free standing oak cupboard (hifi unit) in an alcove with glazed doors which supports a TV and has a recorder inside. It stands 610mm high.

I built my own alcove units, see here:

Our tv is on top of the left most one. The mantle of the fireplace gets in the way of the TV if you are at a shallow angle to it.

I would like to mount mine on an arm to get around that.

Mine are 820 tall with a 40 inch TV, my eyes when sat on the sofa are probably a third of the way up the TV. Doesn’t give me any neck ache.

If you get a kitchen cupboard without the legs on it that will be about 600 high and possibly give you a flavour/indication, particularly if you have one spare

Too low looks better than too high. I'm shooting for this when I build mine:

How wide are your alcoves? They look wider than our 1m. I think that height would definitely give me neck ache- but I’m sure our sofa is actually pretty damn low as well. My eye line right now is about level with the top of our fireplace (the black cast iron bit, not the surround)

My other half was making a pet show display for our coronation party today, so I mocked up a tv and soundbar and we held it up for each other :p

74cm base height here. Alcove is 120cm wide and the TV was a 43” but now 48” (arm mounted)
Cheers. You’ve managed to do what we want - have the top of the Tv just a bit higher than the fireplace otherwise it looks weird. Needs to look intentional. I like the unit painted same as the wall too, we’re debating that but our fireplace surround is marble/stone (white) style so we’ll probably paint the shelves (floating) but not the base unit. What green is that?

Also, is it easy to find an arm that goes up and down as well? Or not worth the hassle/expense?

The colour is https://www.farrow-ball.com/paint-colours/oval-room-blue - the carpenter matched it and the units were sprayed in it before constructing it.

I'd not bother looking for a mount that can go up and down. The mount I linked has adjustment when setting it up that allow you to offset it to get it the height you want it. I had to adjust ours when we got the new TV as the VESA mount was in a different place, and we have a sound bar below it now. Once set, I've never wanted to adjust it - but having a decent reach on the arm, being able to push/pull it and angle it is more than enough.

We have that mount bolted through the cabinet onto a solid wooden spacer that's then screwed to the wall behind it. It's very solid and I've zero concern about pulling the mount off the wall

Cheers @GeX. Is your soundbar mounted on the arm as well? That’s what I was going to do, interested in how it looks if I may..

It isn’t currently but I plan to do so as I’m fed up of moving it separately!
