Hi, im Kris :)
I have been thinking to start to build a new Gaming PC that will last as long as my current have. Thinking to do it bit by bit, with the most priciest bits both month by month.

So it has to start with a CPU, i want something value for money, but i am prepared paying more if it's worth it, been goggling and looking at the CPU chart's and still have no clue what to get. I will want to overclock and push it as far as possible.
So far been looking at these few Intel Core i7-4770K and Intel Core i7-4790K
And what's better Ivy bridge or Haswell ?

Thank you for all the help beforehand.

Hi,

The 4790K is clocked faster than the 4770K by 500MHz and is newer (well its actually a Haswell witha new name and tweaks to the heatspreader and thermal past between the heatspreader and core)

Ivybridge (3570, 3770K) uses a older socket 115 board.

Hi Kris, i have recently acquired a new system, i went for the i7-4790K after reading many posts on various forums, i choose in the end to pay a little more and get the 4790k, mines currently @ 4.8ghz very stable using a H60 in p-p. I know when i learn a little more about over clocking there is plenty to come from it yet.

yeah seems like thats the best deal, so it's called Haswell or Devils Canyon ?

4670K + 4770K are "Haswell"

4690K + 4790K are "Devils canyon"

Devils canyon is Haswell with an increased clock speed and improvements to the thermal bit.

If a 4770K and 4790K were both running at 4GHZ the scores given in benchmarks will be identical.

If you can give a full list of the parts you need (tower, OS, monitor etc) and a budget to spend then I am sure something can be worked out.

Given the choice, definitely the 4790k, as stulid said they have better thermal interfaces (I heard somewhere that the 4790ks are simply binned 4770s but have no idea about this)

Make sure you go for a Z97 board with Devil's Canyon, or if you really want a Z87 board get the BIOS updated first, as Z87 boards won't support DC out of the box generally
