Hello Chaps:)

Back after a long hiatus in France, just saying hello.

My Mum's old Celeron has been knocking out the odd FaH unit or 2 over the last year or so and SMP is back up on my Shuttle.

EDIT Any of these new fangled GFX cards work OK on PCiE x8?

Yeah x8 is fine. x4 will also not reduce ppd but anything less than 4 will cause a hefty points reduction.

Welcome back

Cheers, I assume most new cards are happy on PCiE x8 then? Trying to search GFX Forum but can't find a definitive answer.

Think it depends if it's a full length slot running at x8 speeds or if it's a shorter slot (in which case obviously the card won't physically fit)

edit: Supposedly you can hack the end of a short connector away so you can stick a full sized card in there - sounds a bit iffy :p

Hmm, none the wiser, must be getting thicker as well as older.....

My old cards are ATI 1950's, if they are full length then I should be OK?

I shall consult both my wallet and the PPD charts on other threads.:)

Well my X1900 XT is a full length card and a PNY 8800 GT 256MB slotted straight in and is chucking out just over 5300PPD with the new core :o
Cost me £47 inc VAT as it was on This week only and free shipping for long-standing forums members, current this week only finishes 15th Oct so keep your eyes open after that ;)

You would get a hit in frames per second in games with a slot bandwidth below x8 but folding is less bandwidth intensive than most games.
