I was planning on a new PC but the cost of a new graphics card made me think again...

I had a look at what I had and what I wanted, which was 2 or three PC's to game on..I have 2 sons one is 6 and the other 4, the 6 year old loves PC gaming, we all play quake live...a lot.. also Team Fortress 2...IL2 and F1 2017

What I had

i7 920@4mgz water cooled with 570sli and 8gig ram..Dell monitor 2560*1440 60Hz
2*e7200 Core 2 duo sytems, with 260gtx's (I bought them new still work well) 4 gig ram with 2 monitors I liberated from work

I'm working away in Norway...which is nice but its -10 at night so off to ebay I went...

What I bought and where its going

i7 920 will be replaced with a Intel Xeon X5680 I got which will be on water cooling...cost 70quid
570sli were water cooled..picked up a 980ti with a water block for 300
Another 6GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600 memory to take it to 12..cost 40

One of the e7200 on socket 775 which are maybe 10 years old will get the q9550 which I hope to clock to 4.0ghz..cost 28
Another 4g of Kinston HyperX DDR2 cost me..30
260 gtx was replaced by one of the 570gtx's but I picked up a gtx 970 4gb g1 for...200 which I know may well be bottle knecked by the CPU but I plan to go I5-3570k route at some point, when I build that one Ill put a 570gtx back in...thats probarbly a better balance for a q9550..I'll see how it goes though from what I read the q9550 might be fine at 4.0 for modern games

So I spent 650 ish for which I could have bought a 1070 gtx I suppose....

But that doesnt really excite me...Id like to go VR with my next main PC maybe 8k

Hopefully all this magic dust I have to sprinkle over existing PC's will keep me going till there is a system to do VR @ 8k comes along at a reasonable price

Any thought on overclocks or setups
