Hi guys,

First problem I've ever had with this PC which I bought on here just over a year ago and have been running Windows 7 Professional x64 on until recently. I recently started running Battlefield 4 on it and for the Battlefield 4 release I bought, downloaded and installed Windows 8.1 because I heard battlefield would perform better on it.

Battlefield has crashed a lot, but this is a problem everyone is having at the moment so that doesn't worry me. However, the most recent crash wasn't Battlefield 4, Windows brought up a message saying it had encountered an error and needed to restart. I thought ok, no big deal, ill go grab a cup of coffee and when I get back it will be in the menu screen and I can try running BF4 again.

When I got back I found my PC had failed to boot, and when i went into the boot settings I noticed that it wasn't picking up any of my hard drives (I have 4 hard drives, a Crucial M4 on SATA3 and three other regular SATA2 hard drives). However it was still picking up my SATA2 optical drive.

I didn't get time to look into it further as i had to pack to go visit my parents for the weekend (student) but I will be headed back up to my Uni house tonight to try and get this thing sorted out. I mean best case scenario i could go up and it could pick up the hard drives and run as it always has as if nothing happened... or i could end up having to buy a new motherboard... (Wasn't comfortable buying Asrock in the first place, i have always bought ASUS in the past)

So what do you guys think could be the problem/cause of the problem and how should I go about fixing it?
Obviously the first things I'm going to do if it still wont work is:
1. Plug the HDD's into other SATA ports and try it out
2. Flash the bios
Hopefully I don't end up forking out 100 quid for a new MB.

-Cheers guys

can you look to see what fw version and hours use the m4 has? download ssdlife and see

there's common 5400 hour use freeze bug fixed with latest fw for the m4

if that's not it it can only be down to the windows 8.1,idk if its better to do a fresh install rather than an update?

I had that freeze bug with the M4 in july but it was easily fixed with a firmware update.

I forgot to mention that I did do a fresh install of Windows 8.1 on the M4. I formatted the HDD and installed Windows 8.1 from scratch
