What if WW3.....

This is a question that many years ago me and my friends use to debate a lot. The reason i am asking as today at work one of the guys i work with stated that if WW3 did break out, i am assuming he watch to much news at the moment, that if it got to the point of being drafted into military he would run and ride. When i am the opposite, i would enlist early to try and get a better job in the military. Saying that i think i would still want to be in some kind of Infantry or Artillery role.

So the question is if WW3 was to break out what would you do?
A) Enlist early
B) Wait for the draft and hope for the best
C) Run and hide hope not to found to avoid it all.

This is only theory as there would be age limit on this as well if it was to happen and with the technolggy or nukes it may not even come to a draft.

Seeing as i live in a major city with a fair amount of military interests.

Depends on your age and experience, my views may differ 10 or 20 years ago, I still feel fit as a fiddle and I would like to think I could be on the front lines in some capacity. It would also depend on who we were against. Grandfather was mechanic in RAF so would do fine for me also.

There won't be any infantry or artillery roles in WW3.

If WW3 broke out, nobody would be enlisting in anything. It would be over quite quickly.

Thats's how i feel about it, plus i have applied to join the forces years ago but i broke my hand and it had to be put back. During that time i met my now wife. Plus I still have an active interest in the military.

I'd be on the first boat to where ever is safe and then adopt the boxing stance.

Most likely polishing up my Russian and Chinese as the Russians are the only ones that actually have even half a plan for fighting on after a nuclear exchange and the Chinese would likely sit back wait until its all over and then do whatever the **** they wanted with the rest of the world (well what is left of it). Assuming its the stereotypical West versus Russia scenario.

If we take nuclear off the table then I'd most likely wait and see if/when I got called up, etc.

I don't think WW3 will ever be a thing. If you mean a war between Russia and NATO then I don't think anyone would be willing to use large scale strategic nuclear strikes against another country that can retaliate in kind. Russia is great at bluffing, but conventionally they wouldn't stand a chance against NATO, it's not even close, and they know it.

Too old to be drafted, I'd sit back and watch this list go into meltdown

My friend and I often get stupid remarks like "It's OK for you folks with loads of land in the countryside, you can be self supporting, kill your own cattle and grow your own produce. This is from townies who have no idea what it how long, and what it takes to breed cattle, slaughter and butcher them, or how much work is involved in "growing your own stuff" in quantities for long term survival. So I kill a beast, butcher it ineptly and inefficiently. Gotta eat it before it goes off. Most is wasted.

I grow an acre of spuds and veg. How do I keep it fresh, long term...? No power for the fridge or freezer... No petrol to get supplies...We are just as stuffed as the rest when the power goes off and the fuel supplies stop. Anarchy will reign! But I might get the population reduction I bang on about, but ther again I might also be part of it

Interesting times, the youth of today probably haven't the same will to fight for "their" country as they had in the thirties and forties. Off to brush up on my Russian...

All of my apocalypse prep is geared towards zombies, if it's a conventional or even nuclear war based apocalypse then I'm at a massive disadvantage.

You are of course assuming that it will go Nuclear between the Nuclear powers.

This is not necessarily the case, MAD still applies (One of the main reasons to retain a Nuclear capability in fact)

Do not forget that we have been here before. All sides had lethal Chemical weapons available to them during WW2 and yet, for the most part, they were not used.

Not even by Germany when they were winning. (And much more to the point, not even by Germany when they were losing and faced annihilation by the Soviets)

Being about 10 miles from Manchester I think I'd be dead to a nuke if they started flying about, so I'd probably try to enlist to avoid it
