What incentive does Nvidia have .....

to sell full fat cards at a reasonable price if they can sell 970 256bit cards by the bucket load at near enough the same price Amd sold the 290 with no gimped bus?

Will they ever sell a uncut version of their top end cards at £300 approx now they know their customers are willing to spend that much on what is really their mid range card which only offers the same performance as the 290 launched 1 year ago?

I wouldnt called it a "gimped bus" as such, its just a very high performing "mid range" gpu, just like when the 680 came out. Plus its cheaper for them to produce - more profit.

If AMD had cards out that the 980/970 couldnt compete with then im sure the big maxwell would have been moved along quicker, and the GM204 would have been released as 960/ 960 Ti or something like that.

No, because-

I see we think alike. :) I am surprised so many people are willing to be shortchanged. They did the gimped bus trick with the 680/670 and now with the 980/970 so this trend looks to continue as long as their customers are willing to allow it.

Some people buy by the brand regardless of performance or what the other manufacturer is offering.

Some people do yes but not enough to sway it that much.

People keep mentioning the gimped bus but when the majority of gamers are still at 1080p it makes zero difference, I don't even think it makes a difference at 1440p and the new compression method helps a lot.

They will do it once amd get their act together

Amd already launched the 290 1 year ago which competes on performance to the 970. Even if Amd launched a card that competed on power as well I am glad they have not as that would be shortchanging their customers as much as Nvidia does with theirs. I hope Amd never offer cut down versions even if it means waiting 3 months to get a sizable increase in performance between generations of cards.

Nvidia will keep doing this year after year until AMD to launch a 980Ti equivalent or beatable card prior to Nvidia's new card launch.

People will still buy the Nvidia cards regardless of cost because they have the cash to splash.

I cant see the problem with the bus size, benchmarks show the 970 perfoms very well, even a raging amd fanboy like myself can see it, im also sure nvidia have some wiggle room on the price.
Im afraid its just wait it out and see what amd come up with and shake the market up a bit

Yeah because AMD have never rebranded a card and tried to launch it as something new.

This is quite a bit different from rebranding as both Amd and Nvidia do that. This is where for two generations Nvidia has given people cards that are supposed to be high end (really mid range cards as they only compete in performance with Amd cards from 1 year ago) with a 256bit bus and charged virtually the same as Amd does with their high end uncut versions. I can't see them changing though as loads of people are willing to be shortchanged were if Nvidia came out with the cards they should be coming out with first they would be giving their customers 30-50%+ on previous generation of card and lower power consumption. Maybe not as low as their 256bit 970 mid range cards but low enough.

What IF next year AMD launched a card that will beat the 980Ti equivelant about 2 weeks before Nvidia would launch theirs, and only charge £400 maximum for it?

Would really screw Nvidia for money that's for sure. :D

I've never felt shortchanged on any nvidia card I've purchased, I know exactly what I'm buying.

Yeah 256bit midrange card that scores in the top 15 air cooled cards in 3dmark Firestrike

If the bus speed was a problem for the majority of people the cards wouldn't be selling like hot cakes. The only people it affects is 4k users which is a tiny percentage.

The 970 is a phenomenal card for the money, and the last card i had was an AMD, and I wouldn't be surprised if loads of amd users are now going Nvidia. Plus sli these and you get stonking performance which surpasses the 295x2 in some games whilst cooler, and quieter.

I would agree with you if Nvidia had launched the 970 the same time as the 290 but not 1 year on. If they launch their real top end versions of Maxwell at £300 and £400 if they cannot produce them now that would be one thing but I think they do this so they can milk people twice.
