I have a hard choice on my hands.

I had decided to get a Q9450 or a Q9550 but I was let down and can't get them at the price i was expecting to be able to. I do however still have a choice between a QX9650 and a Q9300 on the cheap.

So i have a choice between a Q9300 for £95 or a QX9650 for £285.

£260 is a little more then i was planning on spending... a lot more in fact, and the Q9300 is'nt quite the overclocking powerhouse i was planning on getting.

I'm guessing the Q9300 is going to be a pants clocker with it's piddling mutliplier and it doesn't even have buckets of cache.

Given the fact that i'm getting an amazing deal, is the QX9650 really, really ( forgoing a top notch new graphics card ) good?

Get the QX9650 and flog it. Get a Q6600 and an X48 board with the proceeds.

Tho I'd be seriously tempted to hang onto the QX9650 for that money.

Oh i'd flog it in a heartbeat... if i could. Part of the deal says i can't... shoulda stated that from the off sorry about that.

Part of the deal says you cant flog it?
Why? Will the mafia hunt you down or something?
I agree with Cob.
Either that or just screw it and get a Q6600!

I get fired... long story.

and in 5 months nehalem is due to appear on the scene. personally i think it would be mad to buy any of the newer intel cpu's now, but thats my personal opinion.:)

Well I'm still running an overclocked X2 4400+ on a S939 mobo running 1gb DDR.
I don't see the point in buying 1gb ddr and lose my 1T timings and buying 2x1gb would cost a shedload compared to ddr2 prices.

In 7-ish months there is a chance i will be able to get a deal on a nehalem, but i can't wait 7 months... crysis beckons, and supreme commander is getting impatient.

I suppose i could go all 65nm *shudders* ... but that's so 2006. I assume the Q6700 is better then the Q6600 in everything but price right?
IF... i was to go 65nm for the sake of £15 the Q6700 is better?
