What is a good 5.1 sound system for my pc

hi all

I have owned a 5.1 creative 5300 sound system for 6 years and now they are broken so i bought a set of logitech 5.1 x-540 which are going stright back as the sub seems to have a buzzing from it.

I think its the transformer but to be honest it should not be doing that on a speaker as my last set did not do this at all.


so can you sugest a good set

The 5300 are a good set of speakers when I’ve used these... you may just have a faulty unit, Best speakers at the moment though I have to say are still the Logitech Z5500 but these do come with a high price tag! I have to say and many others will agree though they are defiantly worth every penny.
 
ok got it down to these

Logitech G51 or 2.1 Z-2300

are they both good for music ? as i listen to a lot and do they both produce top quality sound
i do want a good quality sound as i am replacing my old creative labs inspire 5300 5.1 for music and some movie watching

would the z-2300 sound like a surround sound if you know what i mean do they produce good sence of space fooling you into thinking there 5.1

the z5500 look good but dont know if i can strech it

what do you think

are the g51 better for music than the z2300 ? or on par
 
If you are looking for top quality music sound, 5.1 PC speakers are a poor choice. They are fine for their intended use, gaming and movie watching. I used to use some Creative T6100's, they were decent for gaming and movies, but for music, they were bad enough to make me never want to use PC 5.1 speakers for music listening ever again. Once you have listened to a pretty decent stereo, you will notice the cavernous whole where the mid range is supposed to be. Not to mention the bass feels like it's coming from a separate system. The Z5500 would fair a lot better than the cheaper 5.1 sets, but even that is not great for music. Lack of mid range and over bearing bass are the 2 main problems using such speakers for music.

If it were my choice I would choose 2.1 over 5.1 any day for music, but for top quality music listening, an amplifier and bookshelf speakers is the way to go. For the same price as the Z2300, you can get a second hand amp and speakers, that will sound so much better. Amps are big though, so if you don't have the desk space, 2.0 or 2.1 PC speakers is the next best choice.
 
I went for the Z5500's and didn't regret it at all great sound quality and apparently they last forever. although i can't understand why i am not listening to any music on my usage internet posting bingefest...
