What is a GPU artifact?

Bit of a strange one, picked up a EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 last week and all has been going well.

GTA 5 & Forza 5 work flawless no issues with any gameplay.

My daughter has been playing Fortnite and I've noticed every so often the screen goes pixelated and I can only describe it like when YouTube drops frames on a lower end CPU and the screen goes all blotchy?

Is there any app I can use to test a GPU for artifacts?

Looks like memory artifacting to me. I did say memory there but edited it, it's been too long since I experienced proper issues and I don't know how it manifests in Fortnite/Unreal engine.

While I'm sure troubleshooting tools might exist, if the issue is quite frequent I would simply downclock the memory or core using a tool such as MSI afterburner. I'd start by reducing it quite heavily, around 15%, then if it's gone raise it bit by bit, testing each time until you reach a clock where the issue returns. When you reach this point, back off one increment and you're good.

It's a bit disappointing :( have a hunch it may be artifacts. Done a few Firestrike benchmarks and it does not show up same for the games I mentioned above. I remember using a benchmark years ago where it showed artifacts when you overclocked a card but can't remember the name!

I'll swap the bios over to the slower clock setting and try lowering the clocks.

Well I've tried MSI Kombustor, Heaven benchmark plus 3D Mark.

Temps under full load are 64c and it's hitting 100% usage and boosting to over 2000MHz

I cannot get it to artifact or crash so I'm probably going to go with Fortnite been the issue. I have changed from DirectX11 to performance mode and this so far has stopped the glitching. It's probably a setting not playing nice I hope!

Am I right in saying if the GPU was having issues the above tests would also show artifacts?

dxdiag might help, also dont use overlays like afterburner etc.

Use DDU to uninstall and then reinstall the up to date drivers.

have you tried rolling back the drivers my friend updated his vega the other day and got artifacts on the halo driver but they went when he changed version

Try OCCT it has a VRAM test to make sure the VRAM is working correctly and other tests you can run from it.
