What is the difference between an Upgrade and a Migration?

I am being told each requires different actions and have differing consequences, but I don't see how one is different from the other in that both involve the change of one OS to another.

So I can Clean install, Upgrade or Migrate - but what would I actually be doing in a Migration?

In Microsoft parlance a migration generally only retains user files and settings. It's closer to a clean install than an upgrade.

Migration is the process of transferring the entire user environment (e.g. personal documents and settings) between two computer systems. PC migration is required whenever the need to move to a new computer (i.e. purchasing new hardware), or upgrading to a new OS arises.

Thanks! It makes sense, MS says its the best approach for a standardized environment, personally I always prefer a clean install and apparently a clean install is always done with a migration, then user files, setting etc are transferred over...sound right?

Can an upgrade be done by an administrator over a network to more than one client computer? Apparently a migration can (please correct me if wrong!).

Like taking the bird from where it is in the winter and plonking it where it goes for summer. Same things in a new place

I'd expect you to be able to perform upgrades as you wish as an admin.
